This was my entry for the Oddly Satisfying Render Challenge. I’m still pretty new to Scene Nodes, so this came together with a mix of nodes and classic C4D workarounds.

I have recently been listening to the novel Momo by Michael Ende. The novel primarily deals with mindfulness and our relationship with time. Past, present, and future remain beyond our control, which can quickly create a feeling of helplessness. Sometimes time passes incredibly fast, while at other moments it seems to stand still. Yet, in retrospect, events often come together in a meaningful way, almost as if everything has its place. Over time, the past loses its significance and remains only as fragments of memory. Although phases of life and routines repeat themselves, it is the subtle differences and nuances that make every decade, every year, and every single day unique.

Sounddesign & Music: Jan Brett, Fabian Kalker

Quick breakdown of how it works:

    • Grid Distribution: Built on the Octree setup from Dominik Ruckli’s Scene Nodes tutorial.
    • Recursive Nesting: Eight Octrees nested inside each other via XPresso
    • swapping a specific index with a whole new Octree level.
    • Collision-Free Sliding: A vibe-coded Python Effector tests movements along the X/Y/Z axes
    • checks for intersections so blocks and clusters move without overlapping.
    • Seamless Zoom: Exponential scaling driven by XPresso so the camera zoom feels constant
